Have you ever unknowingly cut yourself and didn't know it until you saw the blood? Once realizing that you were cut you began feeling pain from the wound. Then later wonder why you didn't feel the pain from the cut at the exact time you were cut. In my opinion it seems that we can direct our conscious sensory reception at will. And if we aren't paying close attention to our body's senses at the time of a mild to severe injury, that we will not feel the pain caused by the injury. So lack of attention is almost the same state as being unconscious. An example would be if a subject was knocked completely unconscious you could pull their teeth out without them feeling a thing. So it seems that the power of attention is key for the body's sensory communications to exist at 100% capacity. Senses are dulled by the lack of attention, interesting.
